Women's Self Defense

The Women’s Self-Defense course at Woburn Aikikai is designed to help women identify dangerous situations and provide practical, effective techniques for managing confrontations. This class is not meant to be a cure-all, or to give anyone a false sense of security, but addresses the reality of a smaller person being attacked by a larger and more violent one.

WSD The martial art of Aikido specifically deals in non-confrontational resolutions, and this philosophy is at the heart of the WSD class. A smaller person cannot overpower someone larger and stronger, and it is both futile and dangerous for her to try. This imbalance of power cannot be eliminated, but this class teaches techniques to shift that balance long enough for the intended victim to avoid danger. The goal is not to “win,” but to escape unharmed. The techniques taught employ the principles of Aikido, while also incorporating more direct modes of striking and escape.

The course consists of three one-hour sessions that will cover a range of topics. Participants will receive a complete course outline and a class-by-class breakdown of the material covered.
