Children's program

Aikido helps develop cardiovascular fitness, spatial awareness, and conflict resolution in a supportive and friendly environment. Classes are dynamic and engaging and offer the children a rare moment to use all of their physical senses. All of the children learn basic Japanese vocabulary, Aikido techniques, and traditional elements of Japanese martial arts and culture.

Description of Children's classes:

Mike & kids

Children aged 4-6 learn basic Aikido movement through games and directed play. Although much of what we teach involves play, there is a part of every class where they are asked to sit quietly, and then follow along silently with what the instructor does. This helps them learn how to focus their minds and attention on something without being asked to constantly pay attention.

Children aged 7-12 learn more advanced and complicated techniques challenging them both physically and conceptually. They learn the basics forms of rolling, falling and how to safely throw their partners. The Children's efforts and successes are constantly reinforced, and tests are given on a somewhat regular basis.

The instructors at Woburn Aikido are educators, parents and highly trained martial arts practitioners.
